The resolution once made is delicate, like a newborn infant and needs nurture and care. In the beginning your own will power and commitment may be enough to sustain it and get you off to a start.

Your initial success can serve to encourage you to continue, but you have to see that success. And that indicates you need to monitor the progress. If you cannot gauge it, it will be difficult to use that success to sustain the enthusiasm and commitment.
